Bertha Onyekachi

Bertha Onyekachi is a Nigerian painter, actress and filmmaker. Her work explores emotion, memory, family, migration and identity, shaped by her experience moving between the studio and the film set.

She studied Fine and Applied Arts at the University of Benin, where she also took Theatre Arts electives. This dual background informs her approach: her paintings carry a cinematic quality, composed like frames in a film, inviting viewers to imagine what came before and what comes next.

Rather than telling you everything at first glance, her work reveals itself slowly. She wants her paintings to make people pause, look more carefully, and perhaps leave seeing themselves a little differently.
