Quarshie Tornu is a Ghanaian artist, sculpture and educator. He has exhibited widely, building an international reputation over several decades and being regarded as a seminal figure on the West Africa scene. Born in Accra, Ghana in 1974, educated at the Martech College of Art, Ghanata College of Art, Oluwale College of Art, Creative College of art, Limpopo College of art and Shilo Tiegio College of art.
Quarshie describes his style of working as seminal - abstract he creates images from his imagination. He mentors young artists and works with creative communities to help them develop new ideas. My inspiration as a painter comes from nature/environment and the beauty of our rich Ghanaian and African culture. I believe art expresses everyday happening, and so, every painting of mine has a unique and rich story to tell. Life to me is meaningless without art or artists.
